1. Hit the Popular Rides First
Knott’s Berry Farm’s popular rides – particularly the roller coasters – develop long lines early in the day and they stick around until closing. Some of these popular coasters include Hangtime, Timber Mountain, Ghost Rider and Pony Express.
If those rides are on your list, get to the park right when it opens and knock them out first. You can always do them again, but this will save time and ensure you get at least one good ride in without a long wait.
2. Buy Your Tickets Before You Arrive
There is no reason to waste time standing in line at the park to purchase tickets! You can purchase Knott’s Berry Farm tickets and vacation packages ahead of time. Right now, buying direct from their website is usually your best bet for scoring the best discounts.
3. Arrive Early
Strive to arrive at least 30 minutes before the gates open in the morning, even if you already have your park tickets. This will give you time to park and go through security.
4. Plan Your Route
Check out the park map on Knott’s website and decide ahead of time where you want to go and the order you’d like to visit each area of the park. If thrill rides are your thing, I recommend making a beeline to the back of the park first to ride HangTime, Knott’s Berry Farm’s dive coaster, and then working your way forward around the park.
Think about where you’d like to have lunch, too, to help guide your plan! This will also help to minimize any unnecessary walking.
5. Carry a Map
Grab a park map when you arrive and be sure to check the schedule for the day. Knott’s is known for having really fun entertainment, but the schedule changes frequently. Using the official mobile app gives you live wait times, show times, and even parking info.
6. Use Fast Lane (If You Only Have One Day)
If you’re visiting Knott’s Berry Farm during peak travel time, you may want to consider upgrading to a Fast Lane ticket.
For a fee (currently starting at $75), you’ll get a wrist band that allows you to jump to the front of the line on more than a dozen popular attractions. Fast Lane passes are limited for each day and very popular during busy times, so purchase yours in advance so you don’t miss out.
If you’re wondering if Fast Lane is worth it, I recommend purchasing it only if you are visiting Knott’s for one day only and you don’t want to wait in lines. It’s especially worth it if you’re visiting on a weekend where the park is busy. If you are going to be there for multiple days, probably not worth the extra cost.
7. Visit on a Non-Peak Day
If school is in session, chances are good the parks won’t be packed. However weekends, spring break, summertime and holidays can be extremely busy at Knott’s Berry Farm.
If at all possible, plan to visit on a day when school is in session. We recently visited on a Thursday in the fall, and the park was empty! There wasn’t a ride we waited more than ten minutes to get on. Make this your goal!
Hours may be slightly reduced (park hours were 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. the day we went), but you’ll enjoy a much more relaxed experience and still come out way ahead!

8. Eat at Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant
Plan to have a meal at Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant, located right outside of the theme park.
They’ll only accept reservations for parties of 12 or more. If you have a smaller group, try to eat at an off time to avoid a long wait. I have found that on days when the theme park closes at 6 p.m., everyone rushes to the restaurant for dinner. Since they do not take reservations for small groups, I recommend going around 5 on these days if you want to minimize the wait for a table.
Be sure to save some room for their famous boysenberry pie!
9. Use the Knott’s Park App
Download the Knott’s Berry Farm app to access show times, wait times for rides, and even where you parked! The app also features an interactive map.
10. Be Mindful of Construction/Refurbishment
With the Fiesta Village refresh and other ongoing updates, some areas may be under construction or have modified access. Take note of signage for closures or alternate paths. This is especially relevant if you’re planning to spend time in the newly updated areas rather than just the classic sections.
11. Consider a Dining Plan
Knott’s currently offers an All-Season Dining Plan and an All-Day Dining Plan, which allows you to eat all day but does not include a drink. Check their website for current pricing, and if you think you’ll eat enough to make this a money-saver consider purchasing a plan!
