Wondering what you can do at CocoCay for free?
If you are taking a cruise to the Bahamas, chances are you’ll be stopping at Royal Caribbean’s private island, CocoCay. Known as “Perfect Day at CocoCay,” this island paradise is an oasis of family-friendly activities and lots of opportunities to relax.
And while there are plenty of ways Royal Caribbean will happily take your money while you’re on the island (water park, zipline, cabana rentals, etc.), there are also plenty of free things to do on CocoCay that your whole family can enjoy.
We’ve been to CocoCay a number of times, both before and after its major renovation and expansion several years ago. To help you plan a fun day in port at CocoCay without having to spend an extra dime, here’s a detailed breakdown of free CocoCay activities and amenities.

Free Things to Do at CocoCay
Here is a rundown of all the amenities and activities can you enjoy on the island for free.
1. Splashaway Bay

While CocoCay is known for its Thrill Waterpark having the tallest waterslide in North America (admission fee required to ride that), there is also a free waterpark area your whole family can enjoy. Think dump buckets, fountains and water slides perfect for younger kids!
2. Beaches
There are several different beaches to choose from on CocoCay, and each one has its own unique vibe.
South Beach

For those seeking a livelier atmosphere, South Beach is the place to be. Dive into crystal-clear waters or build sandcastles with the kids along the shore. South Beach boasts vibrant energy and picture-perfect views, making it ideal for soaking up the sun and enjoying the island vibes.
South Beach is also home to the island’s floating bar. If you purchased a Royal Caribbean drink package for your cruise, you’ll be able to drink all day for free on the island (same with the internet package).
It’s a little bit further to get to, but totally worth the walk! You can also take the tram. If you leave the boat on the early side, chances are you will have the beach almost all to yourself as this spot doesn’t get busy until a little later in the morning.
Chill Island

CocoCay’s Chill Island is the most popular beach spot on CocoCay. When you arrive on the island, hand left and cross the bridge. That’s where you’ll find Chill Island.
With ample lounge chairs scattered across the pristine beach, finding your perfect spot is a breeze. Bring your own snorkel gear and wade into the water to look for stingrays. (Rental equipment is also available for an extra charge.) Unwind in the shade or bask in the Caribbean sun – the choice is yours.
We were there at a time when the tide allowed a huge sandbar to pop out of the water. It was such a fun experience to be able to wade out to it (with drink in hand!) and then sit in the cool sand surrounded by water.
Harbor Beach
Harbor Beach is the closest beach to the pier, and the water here is very calm. It’s the ideal spot if you have little kids who like to play in the sand or splash on the shore.
3. Oasis Lagoon

The centerpiece of CocoCay is the Oasis Lagoon, the island’s main pool complex and the Caribbean’s largest freshwater pool. It is so big that there are different areas to experience – from a lively kids zone with sloping entry to more relaxing spots with in-water lounge chairs, tables, and benches.
No island getaway is complete without a visit to the swim-up bar, and Oasis Lagoon has one! Head to the oasis-like setting of the Oasis Lagoon and indulge in refreshing cocktails without ever leaving the water. Sip on tropical concoctions while socializing with fellow travelers – it’s the ultimate way to beat the heat.
If you love a good pool day while on vacation but don’t love the pools onboard your cruise ship, this is a great spot for you.
4. Sports Court

If your kids love to be active, there are a bunch of complimentary activities they can play for free at Sports Court. Located right on the beach, you’ll find volleyball courts, basketball, and some fun lawn games. It’s the perfect opportunity to work up a sweat while enjoying friendly competition.
5. Captain Jill’s Galleon

The first thing you’ll see when reaching Arrivals Plaza on CocoCay is Captain Jill’s Galleon, a pirate ship permanently shipwrecked on the island. Small kids will love this spot, with its water cannons, slides and plenty of space to splash around and have fun.
6. Nature Path

Located near South Beach, CocoCay is home to a short and shaded nature trail. It’s not a hike but it’s a nice spot to walk through and see the island’s foliage. We even had a friendly rooster cross our path when we visited!
7. Free Lunch!

One of the really nice things about visiting a private island when you’re on a cruise is that food is typically included. That is definitely the case at CocoCay. Royal Caribbean provides complimentary lunch options on the island, ensuring you stay full and happy.
Enjoy a feast against the backdrop of breathtaking ocean vistas. The buffets feature beach classics like hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, French fries, taco fixings, salads, and desserts. Lunch at the main dining venues of Chill Grill and Skipper’s Grill are included, as are the island’s Snack Shacks.
If you visit Hideaway Beach, the island’s adults only beach club, food there is included as well (although you will have to pay to get in).
8. Free Tram Service

Getting around CocoCay is easy with their free tram service. Of course you can walk, but if you need some assistance (or are just plain tired after a day on the beach!) take the complimentary tram.
We found the lines to board them get really long toward the end of the day. Since the trams are not huge, sometimes you’ll need to wait for two or three to come and go before it’s your turn, so keep that in mind!
If you are traveling with someone who needs one, beach access wheelchairs are also available to borrow for free at CocoCay. You can typically spot them at all the tram stations.

Finally, if you need some free life vests for the kids, CocoCay has more than enough to go around! They are located at several locations near the beaches and pool.
