Looking for a hotel in St. Augustine that is right on the beach but still close to the city’s vibrant historic district? Look no further than Hampton Inn & Suites St. Augustine – Vilano Beach. This Hampton Inn Vilano Beach review has all the info you need to help plan your stay!
Hampton Inn Vilano Beach
Most people visit St. Augustine to spend time in the historic downtown area – the nation’s “oldest city.” But it’s hard to plan a family vacation this close to the beach without giving into the temptation to stay at a beach hotel.
The Hampton Inn & Suites St. Augustine – Vilano Beach Hotel let’s you have it all! The hotel is located right across the street from a beautiful beach, and yet just a short drive away from old town. (And it is a very scenic drive, too – right over the bridge!)
We stayed at the Hampton Inn Vilano Beach on our most recent visit to St. Augustine. It was wonderful being able to explore the many wonderful things to do in St. Augustine during the day and then come home to enjoy a walk on the beach before dinner. We even spent one afternoon enjoying the sunshine and playing in the waves – something we definitely wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do if we weren’t staying right at the beach!
The Hampton Inn Vilano Beach was built in the early 2000s and features a beachy, Mediterranean design. Although the inside has undergone a remodel in more recent years, there are definitely some signs of age. However, for the most part the hotel is exceptionally clean and comfortable!
The hotel features a bright open lobby and big breakfast area. Outdoor spaces are family friendly, with a nice pool and hot tub with expansive deck and plenty of lounge chairs.

Rooms at Hampton Inn Vilano Beach
There are 94 rooms and suites, all with a coffee maker, wet bar, microwave and fridge. Located over three stories, most rooms overlook the pool or parking lot, with a select few featuring beachfront views.
Rooms each have a 49-inch LCD TVs with cable channels, along with free Wi Fi. Bathrooms are fairly spacious and come with standard toiletries.
Other room amenities include a refrigerator, microwave, wet bar and coffee maker. It was nice having this mini-kitchen space during our stay to keep drinks cold and heat up leftovers.
Room options include one king bed, two queen beds, or a queen suite. Most rooms with king beds include a balcony. If you want the best view, ask for a one king oceanview balcony room! There are only a handful of these rooms facing the beach.
Dining Options
The Hampton Inn serves a free buffet breakfast each morning from 6 to 10 am.
In addition to the typical hotel breakfast fare – bagels, pastries, cereal, yogurt and such – they also offer eggs, breakfast meats and two flavors of waffles. It’s a nice spread and will easily fill you up for the day and save money, especially if you have a family to feed before heading out for the day.
The hotel is half a block away from a large Publix market, which makes it super convenient to pick up snacks or sandwiches for a beach picnic. There is also a nice bar and pizza place next to the market.
For an upscale meal, drive just five minutes down the road to The Reef Restaurant, an oceanfront restaurant in Vilano Beach. With indoor and outdoor seating, you can enjoy spectacular views of the beach and sea from all angles!
Equally good as the views is the food! We dined at The Reef twice during our long weekend in St. Augustine. Some of the dishes we enjoyed included the Grouper Vilano, Jumbo Scallops, Atlantic Salmon and Jambalaya.
The Black and Blue Salad is an exceptionally good value, as it overflows with cuts of tender prime rib over a bed of greens, tomato, carrots and smoked blue cheese crumbles.
