Long Beach is a unique destination that blends the charm of a coastal town with the vibrancy of a bustling city. Whether you’re visiting Long Beach for its iconic attractions like the Queen Mary and the Aquarium of the Pacific, attending an event at the Long Beach Convention Center, or simply looking for a homebase for your Los Angeles area vacation, finding the perfect place to stay is key to making the most of your trip.
I’ve been visiting Long Beach for years and have stayed at many different hotels. In fact, I used to catch the boat from Long Beach to Catalina Island when I worked for their Visitors Bureau, and would often spend the night in Long Beach. So I’ve got plenty of experience in this area! To be very honest, the city sometimes gets a bad rap, but if you stay in the main areas of town it is perfectly clean and safe.
Family Hotels in Long Beach
To help you plan a great visit, here’s my list of the nine best Long Beach hotels for families. I have also included a map below so you can easily see where each hotel is located within the City of Long Beach.
1. Marriott Long Beach Downtown
With its elegant lobby, chic décor and comfortable rooms, the Marriott Long Beach Downtown finds a balance between trendy and classic. Located in the heart of downtown, this Long Beach hotel is a great place to call home base when visiting Long Beach with kids.
The hotel just underwent an extensive renovation (it was rebranded from the Renaissance Long Beach Hotel). We’ve stayed here both before and after the remodel. It was already nice, but the renovations really pushed it a step further. The lobby features a bar and lounge with indoor and outside seating, and a funky, retro design.

Enjoy awesome views riding the hotel’s glass elevators, which overlook downtown Long Beach, The Queen Mary, and the waterfront as you zip up and down.
Hotel rooms are very nice but fairly nondescript. They are decorated with shades of tan and white. The beds are super comfortable. Every room has huge windows and a padded window seat, and I enjoyed sitting there at night and looking out at the city lights.
Marriott Long Beach Downtown also has a fantastic rooftop pool and hot tub. Some rooms open up right onto the pool deck, which is a great option for families if your kids are planning to use the pool.

2. Westin Long Beach
Just a short walk away from the Long Beach Convention Center, the Westin Long Beach features 469 guest rooms, including 31 suites, each appointed with Westin’s Heavenly Bed & Heavenly Bath.
What I love about this hotel is its bright and airy feel. The lobby soars several stories tall, and there are walls of glass with sunlight pouring inside. The lobby lounge is a nice spot to relax.
The hotel’s spacious guest rooms are equally bright, with tall windows and light carpet and furnishings. There is an outdoor swimming pool and hot tub.

3. Hyatt Regency Long Beach
Located on a premiere waterfront spot in the heart of Downtown, the Hyatt Regency Long Beach is an award-winning, beautiful hotel in Long Beach. It features 531 guestrooms and suites, each offering ocean or harbor views.
The Hyatt Regency is located adjacent to the convention center, so if you are visiting during a time when there is an event taking place the hotel will be hopping (and room rates likely higher). On the flip side, you can expect to find a great deal when there are no big special events in town.
What we love best about this hotel is its pool, which overlooks Shoreline Village and the water front, and also has fun lawn games and cabanas. There is even a VW Bus that has been converted into a poolside bar.
Rooms are not huge, but the furnishings are fresh and comfortable with big work desks and very comfortable beds and chairs. The décor is what Hyatt calls “elegant California coastal” and I agree that is a good description!

4. Hyatt Centric The Pike
Hyatt Centric The Pike is a lifestyle hotel located in the center of The Pike retail stores and entertainment center in downtown Long Beach. You can literally exit the hotel and be surrounded by stores, restaurants, and a movie theater.
The hotel’s location also puts you just a short walk away from Shoreline Village, Aquarium of the Pacific, and the Long Beach Convention Center.
The hotel itself is cozy and comfortable. I say “cozy” because I found the lobby dark and small, but in an elegant, urban way. There is a small courtyard off the lobby, and rooftop pool upstairs with amazing views.
They have a small but nice restaurant on-site called Watercraft Market and Lounge. All 138 modern guest rooms and suites have generous white marble bathrooms, roomy workspace, and comfortable beds.

5. Fairmont Breakers Long Beach
Long Beach’s storied Breakers Hotel has undergone a $150-million restoration and is not the Fairmont Breakers Long Beach. This historic property just reopened in December 2024.
Originally opened in 1926, the restored Fairmont Breakers Hotel has 185 rooms and 22 suites, a full-service spa, several restaurants and lounges including a rooftop bar, and a jazz bar off the lobby. The hotel also has a pool. If you are looking for a luxury hotel in Long Beach, Fairmont Breakers should be at the top of your list!

6. The Queen Mary
As much of an attraction as it is a hotel, the RMS Queen Mary is a destination in itself!
Rich in history, staying at the Queen Mary will transport you to a bygone era. Originally launched in 1936, the ship made over 1,000 trans-Atlantic crossings before being retired to Long Beach in 1967, where she now serves as a floating hotel and attraction.
The Queen Mary has 347 spacious staterooms, all elegantly restored with art deco décor to look like it did in its heyday. In fact, even though it has undergone numerous refurbishments over the years, designers left many of the original features intact in the rooms to add to the ambience. Our hotel room even had a round porthole window, which was super fun.
Of course, modern creature comforts now prevail; every room features flat-screen TVs, phones, and comfortable beds and linens.
To be very honest, I found the rooms to be dated – even though they are decorated in early 20th century-style Art Deco – and frankly a little bit creepy. If you are more comfortable in a modern environment, I recommend staying at one of the other family-friendly Long Beach hotels and visiting the Queen Mary on a day trip instead!

7. Hotel Maya
Located near the Queen Mary on the other side of the harbor from downtown Long Beach is Hotel Maya, a Doubletree by Hilton brand property. Hotel Maya is a full-scale resort featuring a Latin American-inspired design, water views, and lush, tropical gardens.
There are 199 rooms, most with a balcony or patio. Guest rooms are decorated with bright colors, complemented with earthy, organic furnishings and finishes.
Hotel Maya offers tons of amenities. There is an outdoor pool and hot tub, fitness center, fire pits, a sandy beach, walking path, and lots of spots to relax. The hotel offers complimentary transportation to downtown Long Beach so you don’t have to worry about driving or paying for parking once there.
Fuego @ Hotel Maya, the hotel’s on-site restaurant, is a modern, Latin infused dining and lounge experience that offers a unique setting at the water’s edge.

8. Residence Inn Long Beach Downtown
This family-friendly hotel in Long Beach is unique in that it is located near the Queen Mary across the bay from downtown. I find this slightly more remote location more relaxing than staying in the hub of downtown, but with a great view of the skyline and still close enough to enjoy all the sights.
The Residence Inn Long Beach Downtown is perfect for families – every room is a suite with fully equipped kitchens and work areas. A free breakfast buffet is served daily, and grab and go snacks and drinks available anytime from our 24-hour Market.
After a day of exploration, relax in the lobby or on the outdoor patio by the cozy fireplace. This hotel has a perfect location close to all of the best attractions Long Beach has to offer.

9. Long Beach Marriott
Located away from downtown’s urban setting and closer to the airport, the Long Beach Marriott features 309 newly renovated deluxe guest rooms and suites, and an upgraded concierge level with private lounge. It is about a 20-minute drive from the airport to downtown Long Beach.
Staying near the airport offers lots of perks, which is why I wanted to include it on this list of best hotels in Long Beach. Not only are the daily rates typically way cheaper, but this hotel offers free parking. They also have an indoor pool as well as an outdoor pool, and a really nice courtyard, pool terrace, and giant great room off the lobby.
The Terrace Grille & Patio – with indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the pool – is open for breakfast and lunch, while Tamarindo’s Margarita Bar & Cantina is open for dinner and late into the evening.

Located just half an hour south of Los Angeles, Long Beach blends urban sophistication with Southern California beach-town fun. There are many hotels in Long Beach to choose from, whether you’re looking for an upscale hotel near the convention center, a waterfront resort, or an affordable hotel that won’t break your budget.
