Looking for Reefhouse Resort & Marina reviews and wondering if this hotel is worth the price? We recently stayed at Reefhouse Key Largo and have all the answers you need!
Just an hour south of the Miami International Airport is Key Largo, the northernmost of the Florida Keys. The Reefhouse Resort & Marina is one of the most popular Key Largo resorts and the perfect spot to call home base for your adventures in the Keys.
The first time we stayed at this property it was the Marriott Key Largo Bay Beach Resort. Today the resort is part of the Opal Collection of luxury hotels, and it has undergone some beautiful renovations. Through it all though, it remains one of the most family-friendly resorts in the area and also sports one of the nicest marinas Key Largo has to offer.
On our recent trip to the Florida Keys, we had the opportunity to stay here again and loved the experience, so here are our Reefhouse Resort & Marina reviews of the hotel, restaurants, and recreational amenities to help you plan a wonderful stay.
Reefhouse Key Largo Resort At-A-Glance
- Beachfront hotel in Key Largo
- Boat, paddle board, kayak, jet ski, and bike rentals on-site
- Spacious, comfortable, recently renovated rooms with beautiful views
- A wealth of onsite activities keeps kids happy and busy
- Complimentary beach chairs for hotel guests
- Amazing hotel staff and service
- The beach is on the bay side, so no ocean waves for more adventurous travelers
Amenities & Recreation
Boasting a relaxed beach hotel setting, the Reefhouse Resort & Marina sprawls across 17 waterfront acres along the Gulf of Mexico. This lovely resort has everything a family needs for a great beach vacation: lots of things to do, healthy and delicious dining options, spacious rooms, and water views.
During our recent visit to Florida, we enjoyed spending time lounging at the resort. The sandy beach is calm and lovely ā perfect for kids who arenāt quite ready for big waves. It is also great if youād like to snorkel right off shore.
The resort of course also features a heated outdoor pool, hot tub, volleyball court, relaxing hammocks and plenty of lounge chairs. Thereās also a patio with an outdoor game room adjacent to the beach area. With all these fun features, it was a nice resort to chill out for a couple of days between more active stints in Miami and Key West.
The resort’s private beach, onsite marina and dive shop make the Reefhouse Resort & Marina a perfect place to stay if you are looking for more adventurous activities, too. Guests can rent jet skis, kayaks, and standup paddle boards. You can also easily book a scuba diving excursion or snorkel tours.
In addition, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park is just minutes from the resort. There, you can rent a kayak or take a glass-bottom boat tour. Also nearby is Everglades National Park, the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States, and other Key Largo resorts.
We snorkeled off the hotelās beach, but the bay water did not have a lot of interesting fish and undersea life to explore. If you are a serious snorkeler or if this is your first time and you want a great experience, invest in an excursion that will buzz you out to one of the islandās nearby snorkeling reefs.
Reefhouse Resort & Marina Guest Rooms
Reefhouse Resort & Marina has 178 guest rooms, suites, bungalows and a beach house with Florida Bay and eco-rich island views at our luxury resort in Key Largo.
The room we stayed in was elegantly furnished, had a spacious upscale bathroom, and private balcony. We loved spending time in our room almost as much as we enjoyed the beach.
Depending on the room type you choose, you’ll have either two queens or one king bed. Most rooms have balconies, although there are budget options with no balcony and no view. We booked a room with two queens and an impressive view overlooking the gulf. Larger families can upgrade to a two-bedroom suite and enjoy a full kitchen. All rooms include flat-screen televisions, hair dryers, nice bathroom amenities, a coffee maker and mini-fridge..
Rooms are decorated in relaxing shades of blue, white, and natural wood, with nautical touches to bring in the marina. The beds were very comfortable, and the balcony furniture was clean and white.
Like most nice resorts, Reefhouse Resort & Marina does charge a resort fee. The $40 per night resort fee includes such amenities as self-parking, pool and beach towel service, poolside refreshments, Wi-Fi, in-room bottled water, and use of the hotelās business center.
Relax at the Spa
I donāt always have time or budget to add a visit to the spa to my trip, but I love a hotel that provides the option. This time, I was lucky to get the chance! Opal Spa offers numerous decadent treatments, including body wraps, massages, and facials.
With a tranquil atmosphere and beachy motif inspired by the sea, the Opal Spa provided an oasis of relaxation between outdoor activities.
Dining at Reefhouse
Reefhouse Resort & Marina offers a variety of dining options: Gusā Grille, Breezerās Tiki Bar, and Flipperās Pool Bar. Donāt let the word ābarā throw you off; all three restaurants are kid-friendly and serve a full menu.
We tried all three establishments and both the service and food were great! We especially loved dining at Gusā Grille because their outside deck overlooks the marina and has a great view of the water and Key Largo’s breathtaking sunsets if you go for dinner.
Gus’ Grille serves cooked-to-order breakfasts, as well as lunch and dinner. I had their amazing Tropical Market Salad with lettuce, hearts of palm, toasted almonds, mango, grilled red onion marmalade, and a mango vinaigrette. You can also add grilled chicken, shrimp, or mahi for a few extra bucks (I had the chicken).
Flipperās Pool Bar is a great spot to grab lunch. The menu is actually the same as Gusā Grille ā featuring fresh seafood, burgers, pizza, chicken, salads, appetizers, and a full bar of tropical drinks, beer, and wine ā but they serve it poolside.
Having restaurant and bar choices right at your resort is always nice, because when you just want to relax on-property it eliminates the need to leave your hotel and find a restaurant off-property.
And while there are plenty of great restaurants in Key Largo, we really enjoyed having the opportunity to just relax at the resort and not drive anywhere for a few days. It is also nice to be able to charge meals to your room instead of carrying around a credit card.
Final Thoughts: Reefhouse Resort & Marina
With its relaxed beach setting and location on the placid shore, Reefhouse Resort & Marina in Key Largo is the perfect beachside escape for families. Though not the fanciest out of all the hotels in the Florida Keys, Reefhouse Key Largo is beautiful and comfortable, and we found the service impeccable. Add to this the outstanding array of activities and proximity to mainland Florida as well as all the Keys, and this hotel for sure is a winner.
If youāre considering a trip to Key Largo, we highly recommend choosing the Reefhouse Resort & Marina for your stay.
