The Hotel
We stayed at the Best Western Hibiscus Motel during our recent visit to Key West, and it was a lovely four days! Best Western Hibiscus Key West is a quiet, two-story building encircling a really nice pool, with tropical landscaping and plenty of outdoor seating.
To save money and time, we always try to choose a hotel with free breakfast when we travel. Like most Best Western properties, breakfast is included every morning of your stay at the Hibiscus Motel. The breakfast buffet area is indoors, but because the lobby area is small and cozy, and mornings in Florida are so mild, most people tend to bring their food to the tables outside. We definitely followed suit with this trend, and breakfast poolside is a sweet way to start the day!
The breakfast buffet includes eggs, sausage, bacon, waffles, cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt and an array of pastries. Coffee and juice are also served. There is no restaurant on site for other meals, but many great options within walking distance.
Parking at the Best Western Hibiscus Motel is free, which is an under-appreciated perk considering many nearby hotels charge $20 per day or more. Also, because of its central location, almost everything on Key West is within walking distance so you really don’t need your car to get around!
Key West Hotel Location
The Best Western Hibiscus Motel is located on the “quiet end” of Key West. It is on Simonton Street, two blocks from the south end of the island and one street over from Duval Street, the main shopping, dining and entertainment part of the city.
This is the perfect location if being near the beach is important to you, but you don’t have the budget to stay at an expensive resort. South Beach and Higgs Beach are the closest beaches, with Fort Zachary Taylor and Smathers Beach also nearby. You can easily walk or ride a bike to get to the sand,
Rooms at the Best Western Hibiscus Key West
What we enjoyed most about the rooms was their spaciousness. Bigger than your typical motel room, the space was comfortable enough for three people to stay, with two queen beds, a seating area, lots of floor space and a nice-sized closet and bathroom.
All 61 guestrooms come with well-thought out features for families. A refrigerator, coffee maker, and microwave make storing snacks easy. There is complimentary Wi-Fi. The pool is a large, deep and heated, and there is a hot tub too. Best of all, no resort fees!
With no resort fee, free parking, free Wi-Fi, complimentary breakfast, and a great location close to all of Key West’s attractions, restaurants and beaches, the Best Western Hibiscus Motel is hard to beat!

With its warm waters and some of the most amazing coral reefs in Florida, Key West is prime for snorkeling, jet skiing, parasailing, and other ocean adventures. There are several tour companies that offer watersport excursions in Key West.
If ocean sports are not your thing, the Best Western Hibiscus Motel just a very short walk to some of the island’s most popular attractions on land. From the motel, you are just a few blocks away from the historic Hemingway Home, the Key West Lighthouse, and the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory.
The Best Western Hibiscus Key West is about a 15 minute walk to downtown and Mallory Square, where you can catch the nightly “Sunset Celebration,” one of the most popular things to see in Key West. This tradition began in the 1960s, and the celebration still takes place every day.
This area is also where you’ll find the bulk of Key West’s shops and restaurants, and many museums. Top picks for kids include the Key West Aquarium, Key West Shipwreck Museum, Mel Fisher Maritime Museum, and Ripley’s Believe It or Not!
