Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition is a beautifully-designed, truly interesting museum located at the Luxor Hotel & Casino. This Las Vegas Titanic Museum showcases a world-renowned collection of more than 250 artifacts recovered from the ship, along with recreations of different decks and rooms that tastefully tell the story of Titanicâs fateful journey.
Experience Titanic Museum Las Vegas
I walked past this Las Vegas Titanic exhibit many times when visiting the Luxor, and on occasion considered going in. But for whatever reason, we just never did. Perhaps I thought it might be cheesy. Or maybe didnât want to damper our vacation spirits with the tragic story of the Titanic.
Curiosity finally got the better of me, so on our most recent visit to Vegas I bought a ticket. Turns out, the museum is much bigger and better than we could have ever imagined!
More than just a look at how Titanic struck an iceberg and sank, the Titanic Museum Las Vegas lets you experience the ship the way its passengers did before Titanic went down on April 12, 1912. The ship was on its maiden voyage, crossing the North Atlantic.
Even before Jack and Rose graced the big screen in 1997, there were plenty of ways to learn about the Titanic if you were really interested. Books, websites and documentaries. But visiting the Luxor Titanic exhibit in Las Vegas immerses you in the story and provides an opportunity to experience history, and that is such an impactful way to learn.
What Youâll See at Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition
Called the âShip of Dreamsâ when it set off on her maiden voyage more than a century ago, Titanic was a floating palace â the biggest and most luxurious ocean liner ever to set sail.
Famous first class passengers included John Jacob Astor IV, who built the Astoria Hotel in New York, Benjamin Guggenheim, the Unsinkable Molly Brown and Isidor Straus. Also on board were numerous immigrants, sailing to New York to start a new and better life in America.
The 25,000-square-foot Titanic Artifact Exhibition walks you through their onboard experiences. Youâll travel down the ships corridors, see the crew quarters, peer into first class suites and third class cabins, and even see the different types of White Star Line dishes they were served in the dining rooms.
Youâll wander onto the deck at night and feel like you are under a starry sky on the last night before Titanic struck that iceberg and sank.
The Titanic Museum showcases hundreds of historical artifacts recovered from 2.5 miles below the surface of the sea.
Artifacts on display at the Luxor Titanic exhibit include luggage, dishes, floor tiles from the first-class smoking room, a window frame from the Verandah CafĂ©, an unopened bottle of champagne with a 1900 vintage, and many other pieces â all with stories to tell.
The Big Piece
Perhaps the most interesting artifacts are the actual pieces of the ship. The Las Vegas Titanic Museum is home to the largest piece of Titanic ever recovered – a 15-ton piece of the shipâs hull nicknamed âThe Big Piece.â
âThe Big Pieceâ is a 13â by 30â section of the hull, complete with rivets and portholes. It was raided from the wreckage in August 1998. This is definitely one of the most fascinating and sobering parts of the museum.
Hereâs the other most fascinating and sobering thing about this museum:
At the beginning of your tour, youâll receive a replica boarding pass with the name of an actual passenger. Of the 2,228 passengers on board, more than half died. The exhibit concludes with a memorial wall honoring all those who lost their lives. There you will find out if the person on your boarding pass survived or died on that fateful night.
